Suns bench rises up; Phoenix evens series with Lakers

Basketball Betting Lines

05/26/2010 - Phoenix, AZ (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Channing Frye broke out of his shooting slump and scored 14 points, as the Phoenix Suns used strong bench play to even the Western Conference finals with a 115-106 Game 4 win over the Los Angeles Lakers at US Airways Center.

The Suns were dominated in the first two games at the Staples Center, but rallied behind a 42-point, 11-rebound effort from Amare Stoudemire in a 118-109 victory Sunday night. Stoudemire had 21 points and eight rebounds Tuesday, while Steve Nash contributed 15 points and eight assists.

Frye came into the game 1-for-20 in the series and had missed his last 17 shots until knocking down a three-pointer midway through the second quarter. He went 4-of-8 from long distance and Phoenix's reserves outscored the Los Angeles bench players, 54-20. Leandro Barbosa had half of his 14 points in the last quarter. Jared Dudley added 11 points, while Goran Dragic contributed eight points and eight assists for the Phoenix reserves.

Phoenix's bench players accounted for all the points during a 14-2 run in the fourth quarter, turning a two-point deficit into a 10-point cushion with just over five minutes left.

Kobe Bryant went 6-of-9 from beyond the arc, on the way to 38 points, 10 assists and seven rebounds for the Lakers. Lamar Odom had 15 points and 10 rebounds off the bench, while starter Pau Gasol also scored 15, but the Lakers lost the battle of the boards by a 51-36 count.

Despite the loss, the Lakers and head coach Phil Jackson still have history on their side as they had back to Los Angeles for Game 5 on Thursday. Jackson's teams are 35-0 all-time when winning the first two games of a series and are 53-1 all-time when holding a series lead of any kind in the playoffs.

Jordan Farmar nailed a three-pointer to give the Lakers an 87-85 edge just 72 seconds into the final quarter, but Barbosa responded with a jumper and Louis Amundson added a layup to give Phoenix the lead for good.

Frye, Barbosa and Dudley hit three-pointers during the spurt for a 99-89 difference, energizing the home crowd. Amundson capped the burst by sinking 1-of-2 free throws with 5:14 remaining.

Gasol's put-back jam had the defending NBA champions within 103-97 with 2:24 to play, but the Lakers got no closer as the Suns held on by going 11-of-14 from the foul line in the final quarter.

Jason Richardson sank a three-pointer in the closing minute of the first quarter, drawing the Suns even at 23 after the opening stanza.

The Suns, who went 11-of-30 from behind the arc, got three-balls from Frye and Dudley in a 52-second span midway through the second to provide Phoenix with a 44-34 lead. They were in front 64-55 at the break despite Stoudemire having just six points and three rebounds.

Stoudemire turned that around in the third, scoring 11 of Phoenix's 21 points, but it was Bryant's team taking the lead briefly thanks to his 16-point quarter. He sank back-to-back three-pointers to draw LA within 70-68 and one Gasol free throw moved the Lakers to an 84-83 edge with 56.7 seconds left in the quarter. Dragic, though, sank two from the charity stripe to send the Suns into the fourth with a one-point edge.

Game Notes

Bryant has 4,785 career playoff points, passing Karl Malone (4,761) for fourth place on the NBA's all-time list. Shaquille O'Neal (5,248) is third...Nash, who suffered a broken nose in the fourth quarter of Game 3, went 3-of-11 from the field...Ron Artest scored 13 points, while Andrew Bynum finished with 12 points and eight boards for the Lakers.

NFL Football Betting : Odds on NFL Division to Win the Super Bowl

NFL Super Bowl Betting

The AFC South and the NFC East are the favorite divisions to have the next Super Bowl champ among them in the NFL betting odds. But more down to the point, these football odds are in favor of the Indianapolis Colts, by far the strongest team in the AFC South, and the Dallas Cowboys of the NFC East.

Most sports fans would agree that these two teams top the list to win it all before the season even begins. In the BetUS Sportsbook football futures, the Colts are +800 in the odds to win the Super Bowl, while the Cowboys are sitting at +1000 and the Super Bowl XLIV champions New Orleans Saints at +900. In the AFC South, the Colts won the division for five straight years after the 2002 realignment, before the Tennessee Titans won it in 2008. But the Colts came back strong in 2009 to win the division again en route to the Super Bowl. The Cowboys are the favorite to win the NFC East, as well as to advance far into the post season. The Cowboys won the division last season before their horrendous loss in the NFC Divisional playoff to Brett Favre and the Minnesota Vikings. But the ‘Boys will take that loss humbly and be ready for the playoffs this time around.

The NFC South is also very strong, at +600 in the NFL futures, considering that it is home to the defending Super Bowl champions. However, some predictions have the Atlanta Falcons with possibilities of claiming the divisional title this season in place of the Saints, as no team has won back-to-back division championships since the division realignment took place. Let’s not overlook the AFC North at +500. As TO goes to Cincinnati to join Chad OchoCinco and Adam “Pac-Man” Jones, this team looks to claim the division title again. And it is likely they will do so. The Bengals lost in the AFC Wild Card spot in a hard-fought battle against the New York Jets last season. Lest not forget the Pittsburgh Steelers, the XLII Super Bowl Champions… All these teams present interesting odds and matchups for the upcoming season, but the safest and surest bet seems to be with the Colts in the AFC South and the Cowboys in the NFC East. American Idol Betting Odds: Season 6

The online gambling websites are in the process of deciphering each American Idol contestant and his or her chances of winning Season 6 to come up with the early American Idol betting lines.

Tim Dalton of MySportsbook.com has been locked away in a soundproof room coming up with all the latest tallies, we are told. "American Idol has become one of the most significant betting events of the year," claims Jack Black of MySportsbook.com.  "Last year, millions were bet during the season across the globe, not just in America.

It's tough early on since we really do not have a glimpse as to how well each of these individuals will perform solo on a week-to-week basis.  It's like Week 1 of the NFL.  Pre-season means nada!

We do know the 24 finalists however.

Sanjaya Malakar is the young man whose sister failed to make it into the Top 24.  He's very low key but - unless he totally flubs - will probably win over the young girlie vote for a few weeks anyway.  He's too young to go all the way, according to Payton O'Brien.

Brandon Rogers - Who?

Phil Stacy is the military guy who missed his daughter's birth because of the Memphis audition.  He should go a good distance.

Chris Sligh - He's got the humor and in many ways he's the Anti-American Idol much like last year's winner Taylor Hicks was.  And this is why he'll probably get pretty far in this competition.  He's chubby, white with a big curly afro....but more importantly, a great voice!  People love "real", not "real cute" to go all the way.

"Blake Lewis should go far because of his uniqueness and looks.  He's the boy next store with a twist - he beat boxes.  But on top of this, he's a great singer, and I adore him," Payton O'Brien relayed.

A talented beat-boxer Blake Lewis was a hit during the group sing in Hollywood but Simon explained that this is a singing contest just before he told him he was “in.”

Paul Kim has caught our own roving reporter, Jenny Woo's eyes.

"I love the fact that there is a Korean American on the show and he is bound to get more Asians tuning into the show," Woo said from her Miami Beach estate.  "There has never been a major presence of Asian-Americans on American Idol in the past.  He's a hottie with a nice voice so that should help to take him far.  Expect heavy betting action from the Asian community."

Sundance Head - He's not perfect, but he's got the personality that will take him through a few weeks, plus he's got the lineage (son of Roy Head - whose 1965 single, "Treat Her Right," hit No. 5 in the charts)

And the others:

Rudy Cardinas
AJ Tabaldo - the 5th time is the charm
Nicolas Pedro
Chris Richardson
Jared Cotter

The girls

"Melinda Doolittle has one of the best voices," says MySportsbook.com Reporter and an acclaimed dancer in her own right, Destiney Lewis.  "It is great to see a back up singer step out like she has.  The girl needs to gain more confidence but that can also be a positive.  I think she will go far."

Alena Alexander - Those tears (she never seems to stop bawling) should get her far.

"Single mom Lakisha Jones I suspect will be a pretty big favorite entering Week 1 of the competition," says Destiny Williams.  Jones is an excellent singer and down to earth.  "She'll have a wide appeal," echoed O'Brien.

Nicole Trellis - Seems to exert confidence.

Amy Krebs - a powerful singer.

Antonella Barba
Gina Glocksen
Hailey Scanardo
Jordan Sparks
Stephanie Edwards
Leslie Hunt
